In order to optimize the performance of a wide area network, I take a few steps. First, I review the current architecture of the network and identify any potential bottlenecks. This includes looking at how the physical media is laid out, how the data is being routed and any potential hardware or software limitations.
Once I have identified potential problems, I look for ways to address them. This can include upgrading hardware and software, reconfiguring the network, or implementing new protocols or technologies. For example, I recently implemented Quality of Service (QoS) on a wide area network to prioritize certain types of traffic and ensure that vital services, such as VoIP, had the necessary resources to operate properly.
I also regularly monitor the network performance and identify any areas of improvement. This includes keeping tabs on throughput, latency, packet loss and other metrics. If I see any issues, I can troubleshoot and resolve them quickly before they become major problems.
Finally, I also work with other teams, such as security and development, to ensure that the network is secure and that applications and services are designed to take advantage of the network's performance. This often involves developing and implementing policies and procedures to ensure that the network is running optimally.
