Title : Lead SQL DBA/Manager Duration : 6+ month contract to hire Location : onsite 5/10 days a week in NYC (50%) The Lead DBA will oversee a small team responsible for the company’s SQL Server database systems, ensuring resiliency, uptime, high availability/disaster recovery (HA/DR), performance, capacity planning, monitoring, compliance, security, and documentation.

This Director-level role provides day-to-day operational oversight, including incident management, system reliability, and service delivery across business-critical SQL Server environments.

The position requires a service-oriented mindset, strong ownership of assigned tasks, and proactive communication with stakeholders.

The Lead DBA will implement changes on production systems, resolve issues in alignment with SLAs, and escalate concerns that cannot be addressed within established timeframes.

Responsibilities Lead and manage a small DBA team, providing guidance, mentoring, and best practices.

Plan and execute enterprise modernization and database upgrade programs.

Identify, assess, and escalate operational risks to senior leadership with clear mitigation strategies.

Monitor and optimize SQL Server performance using tools such as OpsRamp, SQL Sentry, Embarcadero DB/Artisan, including generating traces, analyzing execution plans, resolving performance issues, and addressing deadlocks or contention.
