Principal Software Engineer Location: Canberra, ACT Work Arrangement: Hybrid (On-site at Barton office with flexible options available) Contract Duration: Until 30 June 2026 Start Date: Monday, 6 October 2025 Extension Options: Up to 2 x 12-month terms Security Clearance: Must be able to obtain Negative Vetting Level 2 Hours: Maximum 40 hours per week Experience Level: Principal / EL2 equivalent About the Role We are seeking a highly experienced Principal Software Engineer to lead technical strategy and governance across a suite of digital products.
This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a leadership position, has a strong background in software development, and is passionate about mentoring teams and driving technical excellence.
You will be responsible for architectural decisions, ensuring scalable and maintainable systems, and acting as a key technical liaison between stakeholders and development teams.
Key Responsibilities Define and communicate the technical strategy for supported products.
Promote scalable, maintainable systems through governance and design reviews.
Resolve technical blockers and provide escalation support.
Champion continuous integration and improvement practices.
Standardise technical practices across teams.
