Summary Description Under the direction of the director of the Department of Systemwide Safety and Emergency Management (DSSEM), assists in maintaining a safe and secure environment at designated facilities.

Develops proper professional relationships with staff and offices at the designated facility, approaches and professionally greets visitors on the campus or in the building to determine their business and to assist with locating the office they seek.

Consistently monitors and patrols the building and grounds to ensure the safety and security of the staff and authorized visitors.

Provides a security presence at various school system-related events and activities at central office sites.

Maintains and uses a portable radio, has knowledge of the fire evacuation alarm system, the MCPS emergency preparedness procedures, and other safety and security equipment or practices.

Reports safety and security concerns to DSSEM and necessary cleaning or repair orders to the building service manager.

Maintains appropriate records related to the security monitoring activities.

Responds to safety and security threats at various school system-related events and activities, and reacts appropriately in emergency and high stress situations.
