GRADE 17 LOCATION OF POSITION 350 Rowe Boulevard Annapolis, MD 21401 Main Purpose of Job The incumbent learns to develop, maintain, modify, monitor, and upgrade the Maryland State Archives' Local Area Network (LAN); learns to maintain LAN connectivity to other agency and client remote sites; learns to maintain data security on LAN; and learns to aid in the maintenance and administration of the Archives' Wide Area Network (WAN).
The incumbent learns to perform duties under close supervision.
All these functions are critical to the Archives' mission.
POSITION DUTIES Learns to maintain the Local Area Network (LAN); learns to maintain the software on Windows servers; learns to monitors the volumes on the servers; learns to configure network software and hardware to provide for efficient and effective network performance and data security; and learns to monitor the performance of the network software and hardware through network management and diagnostic programs.
Learns how to order hardware and software; learns how to consult on bid proposals for LAN/WAN hardware and software Learns how to maintain hardware and software inventory databases Learns how to Provide remote access monitoring or Archives' LAN Learns how to schedule, monitor and provide feedback of data stored on Archives' LAN servers Learns how to monitor environmental conditions, physical plant status and conditions; learns how to appropriately maintain areas and reports issues to higher level Supervisors for corrective action Minimum Qualifications Experience: Eighteen months of experience converting data from project specifications by preparing program code using generally accepted computer programming languages or other developmental tools; planning, installing and maintaining data communications network lines and devices; or evaluating, implementing and maintaining computer hardware and software.
Notes Candidates may substitute graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate and fifteen credit hours in systems analysis and applications programming using generally accepted computer programming languages or other developmental tools for the required experience.
Candidates may substitute graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate and completion of a certification program in Network Administration, such as Certified Novell Administrator (CNA), Microsoft Certified Product Specialist NT 4.0 Administrator or equivalent certification program for the required experience.
Candidates may substitute experience in one of the following areas on a year-for-year basis for graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate: operating computer systems, scheduling, controlling input and output or maintaining backups or data storage, processing data on computer systems, evaluating, implementing and maintaining computer hardware and software or converting data from project specifications by developing programs using generally accepted computer programming languages or other developmental tools.
